David Jr had his well check up today. He weighed in at 11 pounds, 10 ounces (87th percentile) - up almost 4 pounds from birth (he was 7 pounds, 14 ounces). He has grown to 23.25 inches long (93rd percentile) - up 2.75 inches. His head has also grown 2 centimeters and is now has a circumference of 38 centimeters (42nd percentile). Our doctor entered the room asking if I were taking steroids or feeding David steroids. I actually found it quite amusing since the lactation specialist we saw during discharge at the hospital was concerned about David's weight loss during those first 40 hours.
The remainder of our visit was low key. I asked a lot of questions (its amazing what I know now having done this before) and began a discussion about acid reflux. Carly had been a happy spitter and we had been warned about characteristics to watch for in case things changed. They never did; however, that discussion was vaguely in my memory and left me thinking David had an acid reflux problem. Based on my description of these spitting up spells and a quick exam, we were sent home with a prescription for a reflux medicine and with a warning that it may take time to work through his system or he may begin to show improvement immediately. We were also sent home with instructions to start vitamin drops to insure David is getting enough iron and vitamin D since he is nursing 100% of the time. (We will be starting these in 3 days, once we know that there isn't a reaction from the acid reflux medicine.)
David will return next month for another check up and a round of shots...
Whaaa hoo! Excellent work Sharon. David is really growing! That is amazing and wonderful. Love, Aunt Bubble
